Okay - so what exactly is (was) Urgh! A Music War?

Urgh! A Music War was a great documentary film of some of the most interesting and impressive bands in the New Wave and Punk genres. It was released in 1981 and distributed by Lorimar. Later, it was issued as a video tape by CBS/Fox Home Video. Here's just a partial listing of bands featured in the film:

  • The Police
  • Oingo Boingo
  • XTC
  • The GoGos
  • Joan Jett and The Blackhearts
  • DEVO
  • UB40
  • Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark
  • Wall of Voodoo
  • many, many others!

As you can see, this film contains quite a diverse sampling of what was happening in the music scene of that era. The big problem is that this title is out of print!

So what are we trying to do here?

The object of this page is to rally support and distribute contacts for a lobbying effort to get this title re-released. At this point, it'd be great on standard video tape, but hopefully we can convince CBS/Fox to re-release it on DVD so we'll have great sound and video designed to last.

  2. The International Movie Database listing for Urgh! A Music War contains an almost complete listing of bands and artists appearing in the film along with credits for the film makers and crew.
From another Urgh! fan: Also, you should know there's a mistake on your page; you say that the IMDB has a complete artist/track listing from the film; actually, the IMDB listing leaves out a few of the performances (like Chelsea, Surf Punks, and another band I don't know).
  3. good IMDB content to check
